In what has turned out to be a monster thread over on the Cricket Forums, a cricket fan has gotten the evil words “cricket worldcup or me” spoken to him. Whether or not the fan in question here has a significant problem engaging too much in cricket is of course in question, but what if he’s just the average cricket afficionado with a girlfriend who just hates cricket?
Yes, he did buy his girlfriend ‘Best of Indian Cricket’ for their anniversary (bad move). He does admit to thinking about a pitch, wicket and dismissals while making out with her, but does that mean he needs to get rid of his cricket habits just because she wants him to? Why make him make a choice like this in the first place. Obviously she doesn’t like who he is anyway – at least when he is in cricket mode. Of course a cricket game is in no way a replacement for a woman, but the Cricket Worldcup ’07 doesn’t make you choose between it or a girlfriend. Or better: should not make you choose…Maybe this guy should think about his first choice – should he have rather choosen a female soul-mate who happens to be a die-hard fan also, so things like this don’t become an issue? Can he handle it that way?
What would you do?
